The Difference Between Time Frame And List In A Date Filter

Follow

When filtering for date in Analytics, the two most popular filter types are List and Time Frame.

List:

The List option shows a list of date ranges available for Years, Quarters, Months, Weeks, Days, or Times. List filters are Static filters; for instance, if you select "2021" from the list of Years then your Dashboard or Widget will show the data from the Year 2021, but as soon as January 1 of 2022 comes around, the data will stop being counted. If you want to change to 2022, you just need to edit the filter and select 2022 from the list.

Time Frame:

The Time Frame option also shows a list of date ranges available for Years, Quarters, Months, Weeks, Days, or Times. However, Time Frame filters are Dynamic filters that move through time with you; if you select "This Year" from the list of Year options then your Dashboard or Widget will show the data from the Year 2021, but as soon as January 1 of 2022 comes around, the data will start showing for 2022 without any manual changes necessary.
