The SiteDocs mobile app has the ability to gather GPS coordinates based on the location and the type of mobile device being used. GPS by nature does not require internet access to work. However, some mobile devices (e.g. Apple Wifi-only iPads) do not have a GPS receiver and therefore rely solely on Wifi to triangulate its location. This is not nearly as accurate as devices with a dedicated GPS receiver.
Since GPS satellites broadcast their signals in space, what your device receives depends on several factors including satellite geometry, signal blockage, atmospheric conditions, and receiver design features/quality.
Generally, GPS-enabled devices are accurate to within a 4.9 m (16 ft.) radius under the open sky. However, accuracy worsens near buildings, bridges, and trees, and even more so if you are indoors or underground.
