When Logging into SiteDocs through a SiteDocs Lite™ Link, users are asked to enter an email address or log into their Google or Apple Account to verify their identity and gain access. We chose this verification route for a few reasons:

Ensuring Deliverability In All Regions

Each country has different regulations around sending SMS messages.  We already have blocks in Aotearoa, Australia, and the United Kingdom have recently updated their regulations that required changes.  As we expand to other countries or new regulations are enforced, we don’t want this critical feature to be interrupted.

Email confirmation codes will not have this issue.

Email Codes Are Common and Quick

Apple has already enabled auto-filling codes sent by email just like with SMS so they are now just as quick.  Even without this auto-fill, most users can see a notification for the incoming email on their screen, read the code and type in the verification code quickly.

We will continue to keep the process to as few clicks as necessary to make the process quick and easy on-site.

Email is an Easier Ask

We believe in some cases Workers will be more willing to provide an email address than to provide their personal phone number.

Minimizing Complexity For Everyone

In our rigorous planning and evaluation, we determined it was unwise and overly complex to offer two paths of identification for a Worker/user, eg. Phone number OR Email.  The benefits were minimal in light of the added complexity to users, Admins, and our Development Team.

This Feature Works With Satellite Internet in Remote Areas

You can choose to get satellite internet, but you can’t just add a cell phone tower to your job site if there is no cell service.
